As a kitten, Conner was given a necklace, shortly after, he had to watch his father die--unable to do anything about it. Now, a year later, Conner is living in an old barn with three other cats. But soon he starts to see a strange white she-cat everywhere, and his 'friends' kick him out because they think he is crazy. After listening to the white cat, Spirit, Conner decides that he has to go back to Cat City--an abandoned city and the place his father died in.

After getting there with a few unlikely friends, Conner finds that there is a much bigger enemy on the horizon, the black cats and their vicious leader, Ratchet.

The black cats are obsessed with the ideal that they are the greatest of all felines, and they have the cats of the city fooled into believing them.

Their leader however, has different reasons for wanting the 'other-furs' (cats who are not pure black) gone. And he needs one thing to do it--

Conner's necklace.

After teaming up with a group of rebellious cats, Conner follows the lead of Spirit to meet his destiny.
